Museum – Cerralbo Museum – Madrid

The Cerralbo Museum is a museum located in Madrid, in the Chamberí neighborhood. This museum is the former residence of the Cerralbo family, built at the end of the 19th century. The house-museum was donated by the family’s descendants to the State in 1922 and opened to the public as a museum in 1944. The museum houses a collection of art and antiquities compiled by the Marquis of Cerralbo, Enrique de Aguilera y Gamboa, and his wife , Amelia de Valle Arizpe. The building itself is a piece of architectural art, with an impressive façade and an interior decorated with furniture, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, armor, textiles and decorative objects from different periods and styles. The museum has several rooms that recreate different rooms from the period, such as the ballroom, dining room, library, office and the family’s private rooms. Each of these rooms is decorated with original furniture and objects, allowing visitors to experience how the Spanish aristocracy lived at the end of the 19th century. In addition to the permanent collection, the Cerralbo Museum also organizes temporary exhibitions, conferences, concerts and educational activities for the general public. In short, the Cerralbo Museum is a unique place in Madrid, which offers its visitors the opportunity to explore the life and art of Spanish high society at the end of the 19th century, through the collection and residence of the Cerralbo family. .
